Chan Chan
If you love to study archaeology and visit archaeological sites, Chan Chan is the place for you. It is located in Peru and was the capital of the Kingdom Chimor, known as the Chimu Empire. The entire settlement is the largest prehispanic mud-brick settlement. It was a large city, covering over seven square miles and is surrounded by the old palaces of the Chimu kings. The city goes back to the start of the first millennium when the Chayhuac Citadel was built. This was the first large enclosure. Eleven more citadels were built after that. When the Incas conquered Chimu in 1470, it was the center of such a large empire that it covered 621 miles of the Pacific coastline. It also covered two-thirds of the agricultural land irrigated along that coastline.
