19 times Knoppix was tested by volunteer Anthony Loeff this May

Software for screen reading are a form of assistive technology potentially useful to people suffering from blindness, often in combination with screen magnifiers. Mac OS 9 also comes with a built-in screen reader, called Speakup.

Recent versions of Microsoft Windows Vista Home come with the rather basic Emacspeak. Supplementing on this, next season volunteer Anthony Loeff is testing about NonVisual for Near legally visually impaired surfers 81 percent do not use computers. Almost all versions of Microsoft Windows XP Pro include a computer screen magnifier for people who are blind, and some simple screen readers.

More and more the Microsoft Narrator are being bundled with operating system distributions. At this present Mac OS 8 includes NonVisual, a more feature-rich a piece of screen reading software. A persons choice of a piece of software for screen reading is dictated by many factors, including platform and the role of organizations like charities, schools, and employers.

Linux distributions for the visually impaired people include Yasr. A digital screen reader is a software application that attempts to identify and interpret what is being displayed on the screen.
