Why Detox and What Are Toxins

The dictionary I have on my desk defines a toxin as "a poisonous substance or plant or animal origin". If we ingest one of those, we could be in for some serious health related side effects or even death, depending on the severity of the toxin.

However, when we use the word toxin in relation to a body detox program, we don’t really mean this kind of toxin.

More appropriately, we are referring to compounds such as nicotine, caffeine, alcohol and perhaps even red meat.

However, these are not the only substances we need to be wary of – there’s plenty more we need to monitor.
