Falanga
Falanga is a form of torture that is still commonly used in countries where torture is still used, such as China and the Middle East. It involves the use of stick to beat and whip the bottom of the foot. Even though this is extremely painful, it does not leave much by the way of marks. It does take a long time to heal and walking is painful. The prisoner needs to be restrained and the foot and leg are clamped in place before the beating. In Iraq, the son of Saddam Hussein, is alleged to have used falanga on Iraq Olympic athletes who did not perform according to his standards.
