Complications Of A Slipped Disc
A slipped disc, or herniated disc as it is now known, is usually the reason for an extremely rare condition called “Cauda Equine Syndrome”. This involves damage to nerve roots in your lower spine which are critical to the function of your bowels and bladder, and are responsible for the sensation in your groin and anal areas. When a slipped disc occurs it can sometimes compress the nerve roots leading to the above symptoms. The symptoms of cauda equine syndrome include numbness in your genital and anal regions and in your feet, an inability to urinate, and loss of sexual function. Emergency surgical treatment is required to prevent permanent loss of bowel , bladder and sexual function.
