Victim of rear-end accident recovers from underinsured portion of own policy
The law firm that handled the case described below reported a settlement of $500,000. The case arose out of a motor vehicle accident in which a woman suffered serious injuries from being rear-ended in a motor vehicle accident. The female victim required weeks of physical therapy followed by arthroscopic surgery for her shoulder injury. She then required an additional revision procedure to remove scar tissue that was causing her stiffness in the shoulder. The first $100,000 of the settlement amount was paid by the policy of the vehicle that rear-ended the victim. The remaining $400,000 was paid by the victim’s own insurance carrier under the Underinsured Motorist portion of her policy.
