Belly Dancing Drums
Belly dancing is not only an ancient Middle Eastern art and tradition, it is an effective form of contemporary exercise. Belly dancing can be accompanied by the music of a darbuka, or, doumbek drum, which is recognized by its goblet shape. There are two different types doumbek suited for two different playing styles. The rounded edges of the Egyptian doumbek suit playing styles featuring many finger rolls, whereas the exposed edges of the Turkish doumbek are suitable for finger-snapping styles. Doumbeks can be made out of a variety of materials, such as the aluminum or bronze Alexandria doumbek, the ceramic Daveed doumbek, or doumbeks of brass, copper, wood, mother of pearl, and even fiberglass.
